BASEBALL IN VIETNAM
For many, the game of baseball is as American as it gets, but in Vietnam’s conservative north a group of youngsters are building their own baseball field of dreams. Hanoi Fishanu, are the first baseball team based in the Vietnamese capital. Having no local players to learn from, Fishanu captain Chien and his friends learnt the game and adopted the associated fashions and slang from Youtube tutorials.
The Hanoi Fishanu baseball team is a symbol of the ‘New Vietnam’—a land no longer defined by conflict, but by development, progress, innovation and potential.
These young people have grown up surrounded by international influence and are seizing the opportunity to redefine what it means to be Vietnamese.
